In 1978 the
owner of Gaudin Ford (Don Ackerman) sold John a 1978 mercury cougar xr-7, by the info below John hung on to the
car for about ten years he then sold it to a Donna Hurst for a mere
3,800 dollars. Our newest member John has now bought the car and it is
in Australia. He has done some research on the car and found out
it was John's car but he had no idea when he bought it. Some people
have suggested he put it on EBay and the buy another one, John does NOT
want to do this he has plans on using the car and getting plenty
of KMs out of it. Good on you John! Higher Ground Australia
has the copyright in place on the photos & documents just to
protect John's investment. John thank you for sharing all of this with
us. Below is one of the things John has
said about the car: I ALSO GOT ONTO A COUPLE OF PEOPLE WHO
RECALL JOHN HAVING A MERCURY COUGAR AROUND 1980 BUT IT WAS LAST SEEN IN
STORAGE IN A SHED ON THE SOUTHSIDE OF LAS VEGAS THEY WERE UNSURE OF THE
PARTICULAR YEAR MODEL SO I SENT THEM A PICTURE OF MINE AND ONE OF THE
PERSONS CONFIRMED THAT IT LOOKED IDENTICAL TO THE ONE IN A CLIPPING HE
HAS AND SAID THAT THE CAR WAS POSSIBLY BOUGHT AS TRANSPORT TO GET
AROUND BUT WAS STORED AWAY WHILST HE WENT ON TO HELP WITH THE AFRICAN
ISSUES AND THAT THE MOVIE OH GOD WAS FILMED AROUND LAS VEGAS IN 1977
AND HE WAS ENGAGED IN MAKING AN ALBUM LATE IN 1978 WHICH WAS PRODUCED
AND RECORDED IN AROUND THESE AREAS.I didn't buy the car to make a
monument so be assured I intend to put plenty of miles on it
over the next few years.
George Gaudin
retired from the business in 1972 and sold the Las Vegas dealership to
Don Ackerman. On taking ownership, he was quoted in a newspaper article
as follows: "I firmly believe the reason Gaudin Ford has been so
accepted by Las Vegas people is because we have tried to be nothing
more than a hometown auto dealership serving hometown people. I think
people realize that Gaudin Ford has been here for some time and plans
to stick around and back up what's sold."
